Memories
of Rhodes Greece 1952-1964

When the Courier arrived at Rhodes in 1952, the island was still devastated from WWII. Piles of bombed rubble, stocks of ammunition, and rusted German, Italian, and British helmets littered the countryside. Many Rhodians lived in poverty, having lost their homes, businesses, and many men and loved ones. The Courier brought an economic influx that began the island's recovery while the Rhodians built a bustling and successfull tourism industry that is thriving today.
